Walk Your Dog. Save A Tree.

San Francisco has the smallest urban canopy of any major city in the United States, and every year it loses another 4% to disease, attrition, tree-topping and illegal tree removals. But you - dedicated Dog Lovers and Dog Walkers - can help save our urban forest, and make sure that our city remains sustainable for future generations.

Why Dog Lovers and Walkers?

Because we know our sidewalks and streets

Dog Lovers and Walkers spend countless hours exploring San Francisco with our canine companions. We know the landmarks, the parks, and - importantly - the trees (thanks to our dogs!). If a tree is illegally removed or pruned, we are the most likely people in our neighborhood to know.

Save Our Urban Forest: It's Simple.

  1. Install the SF311 mobile app on your smartphone.
  2. Go for a walk with your dog.
  3. If you see an illegally removed or "topped" tree, open the 311 app, take a photo, and submit it. The app automatically records the location, and you provide basic information, e.g. "illegally removed tree". It's that easy!
